DR.Jianguo Xu graduated in Shanxi Medical College in 1976, received his master degree in Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences in 1982, and doctor degree in Chinese Academy for Preventive Medicine in 1993. He has worked as research associate in Centre for Vaccine Development, University of Maryland School of Medicine, and in Department of Microbiology, University of Georgia for five years.
He has served as the director and professor for National Institute for Communicable Diseases Control and Prevention China CDC since 1998 and the State Key Laboratory for Infectious Diseases Prevention and Control since 2005.
He serves the Chairman of the National Expert Committee for Microbial Pathogen Safety; Vice Chairman of the State Key Project for Aids, Infectious Hepatitis and other major infectious disease; Chairman, sub-division of Infectious diseases control and prevention, consulting committee for diseases control and prevention, Ministry of Healthy; Vice chairman, Division of emerging and acute infectious diseases, Medical emergence response consulting committee, Ministry of Healthy; Member, consulting committee, Division of Medical Sciences, National Natural Science Foundation.
DR. Xu and his team has successfully conducted the etiological investigations of outbreaks in China, with the molecular and genomic technology, caused by Escherichia coli O157:H7 in 1999, Streptococcus suis sequence type 7 2005, Anaplasma phagocytophilum in 2006, Neisseria meningitides sequence type 4821 complex in 2005. He promoted the established the PulseNet China and proposed China Pathogen Detection Network, which he believe will revolutionize the infectious diseases surveillance practice.
